FVT 600/1200, exhibited at the AMIA conference in Austin, Texas
At this year's AMIA 2011 in Austin, Texas, professional visitors had a chance to try out the new Kinoton FVT 600/1200 Film Viewing Table. Archiving professionals from around the world attend this annual conference of the Association of Moving Image Archivists to share information and learn about the latest developments in their field.
The FVT 600/1200 is a highly functional tool for evaluating both 35 mm and 16 mm archive stock. It excels with a unique combination of valuable, easy-to-use features that are ideally designed for archival applications. The compact flatbed table has an open layout with a simple film path for easy lacing. It takes only two minutes to change the film format. Motorized height adjustment lets you work while either sitting or standing.
A microprocessor-controlled drive system enables high winding speeds of up to 300 fps (or 400 fps with 16 mm films), with display of the film images at any speed. Accurate tension control reliably prevents harm to the film. Even shrunken or damaged material can be safely viewed with the FVT, thanks to a special archive mode with reduced tension and adjustable film transport. The video scanning unit is equipped with a synchronized flashing LED light source to prevent exposure of the film to heat.
Representatives of a number of film archives around the world took advantage of this opportunity to experience the FVT 600/1200 first-hand. Their feedback was extremely positive; the professional archivists were very pleased with the ease of use and efficiency of Kinoton's new film viewing table.
